Hamilton Pinheiro is one of the leading figures of the instrumental music scene in Brazil’s Federal District — a bassist, composer, arranger, and producer whose playing radiates emotion and precision.
Originally from Natal, in northeastern Brazil, Hamilton’s first encounter with music came through an old guitar at home. Though drums were his first love, a single bass line changed his destiny. That “weird instrument,” as he once called it, became his lifelong voice.
After moving to Brasília in 1996, Hamilton immersed himself in the capital’s rich musical scene, studying at the Brasília School of Music and later earning a master’s degree in Jazz Performance and Composition in the United States. His sound blends the sophistication of modern jazz with the soul of Brazilian rhythm.
Over his career, he has released acclaimed albums such as Altos e Baixos, Duo 13, Galinha Caipira Completa, Quatro, Samba and Beyond, and O Dia do Sol (2025) — each exploring new ways to tell stories through the bass.
In this exclusive Play With The Masters session, Hamilton shares his approach to groove, harmony, and improvisation. Between performance and reflection, he reveals how the bass can be both foundation and melody, rhythm and poetry.
