Cavaquinho & The Art of Choro – with Márcio Marinho
Play With The Masters – Brazil Edition 2025

1h 20m
Márcio Marinho de Souza is a renowned cavaquinho player, arranger, and composer from Brasília. A central figure in the Choro Livre group and one of the great references of contemporary choro, he brings the small four-stringed cavaquinho to the forefront of Brazilian instrumental music.
With more than two decades of career, Márcio has performed across Brazil and abroad, sharing the stage with legends such as Hamilton de Holanda, Carlos Malta, and Rosa Passos. His elegant touch, harmonic fluency, and rhythmic subtlety have made him one of the key voices of Brasília’s instrumental scene.
In this Play With The Masters session, Márcio explores the expressive possibilities of the cavaquinho — from traditional choro patterns to modern harmonic textures. He discusses phrasing, right-hand articulation, and how to make the cavaquinho sing beyond its percussive role.
