Joana Duah is a singer and songwriter from Brasília, Brazil. A versatile artist with an expressive voice, she effortlessly moves through samba, baião, choro, rock, and Latin grooves — blending tradition with her own modern, soulful touch.
Her musical journey has taken her far beyond Brazil. After four years in New York and a stay in Hong Kong, Joana performed at jazz and world music festivals in Dubai, Tel Aviv, Buenos Aires, Lima, and Rome. She has shared the stage with some of Brazil’s greatest musicians, including João Bosco, Dominguinhos, and João Donato.
As the lead singer of Música de Montagem — a project led by composer and instrumentalist Sérgio Molina — she released an acclaimed self-titled album in 2019 under the São Paulo-based label Circus. Her upcoming solo record, Bicho Encantador, created in collaboration with pianist Salomão Soares and percussionist Guegué Medeiros, continues to expand her musical universe with a blend of emotion, poetry, and rhythm.
In this Play With The Masters session, Joana shares her vocal approach, her interpretation of Brazilian phrasing, and her philosophy of connecting emotion to melody.
